Bologna vs Genoa 2-2: Spoils Shared After Thrilling Second Half Battle

One point for each team for Bologna and Genoa after a back-and-forth second half. The Felsinei move to eight in the standings, the Grifone to four. They both got partly back on track after rough losses.

Sinisa Mihajlovic mostly stuck with his starters despite the romp by Inter. The only change was Musa Barrow, who has alternated with Nicola Sansone thus far. Davide Ballardini confirmed the 4-2-3-1 he implemented last week. Mattia Bani and Hernani replaced Zinho Vanheusden and Abdoulaye Touré, while Yayah Kallon started over Goran Pandev up front.

The two sides have gotten used to quiet first halves, and this was no different. Despite a decent pace, there was barely any chance. The highlights were a Kallon’s scamper on a counter and a free-kick by Marko Arnautovic that went well over the crossbar.

Bologna broke the deadlock a few minutes after intermission. Following a set piece, Aaron Hickey settled the ball just outside the box and blasted it home with a potent cross-shot. However, it did not take long for Genoa to respond. They equalized at the 55th minute, as Mattia Destro netted a header sneaking through defenders on a cross by Domenico Criscito.

Bologna pushed to get the lead back. Salvatore Sirigu had a tremendous save on a point-blank header by Lorenzo De Silvestri. In the final minutes, they were awarded a penalty kick as Zinho Vanhuesden blatantly hugged Nicola Sansone. Marko Arnautovic was clutch from the spot for his second Serie A goal.

Genoa got a PK as well right away as Kevin Bonifazi obstructed Kallon in the box. Criscito came through and made it 2-2. The last-gasp attempts by Bologna were stopped by the crossbar and by Sirigu, who brilliantly denied a tap-in by Roberto Soriano.
