Bologna and Manchester United Agree to Revised Terms

Manchester United and Bologna have wrapped up the negotiation that will see Joshua Zirkzee transfer to the Premier League. The Red Devils overtook Milan a few days ago and ironed things out after the Netherlands’ elimination from Euro 2024. He’ll be in town for the medicals soon, Goal reports.

The English powerhouse stated its intention of activating his €40M release clause. Instead, they negotiated the fee with the Felsinei afterward. They’ll shell out a little more, €42,5M, but in three-year installments rather than on the nail.

Bologna owe Bayern Munich a big chunk of the Zirkzee fee, so they will cash in around €25/26M from Manchester United. Erik Ten Hag staying at the helm was key. The Red Devils will pay significant commissions to his agent Kia Joorabchian, which was the main hurdle for Milan. The player will earn €4/4.5M annually.

The Premier League giants will add an elite budding Serie A striker for the second summer in a row after onboarding Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta. The Dutchman tallied 11 goals and 5 assists in 34 matches in his first campaign as a full-time starter in Italy. He previously starred for Anderlecht, Bayern Munich, and Parma.

Our Take on Manchester United, Bologna, and Zirkzee

It’s rough for the Italian league to lose another young star, but deals of a certain magnitude are too expensive and risky for most sides. Given his peculiar traits, as he’s not an overly prolific no.9 but is tremendous in interplaying with his teammate, it’ll be interesting to see whether he’ll earn a featured role in a more competitive scenario or get lost in the shuffle. He surely meshes well with Hojlund.
