Bologna Chief Reiterates Belief in Italiano Amid Stuttering Start

Bologna sporting director Marco Di Vaio has reiterated the club’s trust in new manager Vincenzo Italiano despite an underwhelming start. The former striker likes Italiano’s approach but understands it’ll take time to implement his ideas at Renato Dall’Ara.

Italiano took over the reins from Thiago Motta, who swapped Bologna for Juventus in the summer, following a three-year stint at Fiorentina. His predecessor raised the bar high, guiding the Rossoblu to Champions League qualification for the first time in nearly 60 years last term.

However, Italiano’s tenure at Bologna has been off to a disappointing start. In addition to a scoreless draw against Shakhtar Donetsk in their opening Champions League fixture, his men have only won once in six Serie A matches after conceding a late equalizer in a 1-1 home draw against Atalanta tonight.

Despite those setbacks, Di Vaio believes Italiano is the right man for the job.

We are in the process of learning, growing, and gaining experience, the Bologna chief executive said, as reported by TMW.We know it takes time, as it does every time you change a coach. It’s not new, it requires patience, but we see that the players are gradually opening their minds, understanding what the coach is asking of them.

These are not pleasant times for Bologna, yet Di Vaio puts his trust in the 46-year-old tactician.

The manager has patience, will, great passion, ideas, and we are convinced that in the end, he will succeed in getting his philosophy into the players’ heads, the Bologna sporting director admitted.
