Bologna Complete One Defensive Signing, Set to Announce Another

Bologna finalized the arrival of Emil Holm from Spezia on Friday, dishing out €7m plus bonuses to bring him to Renato Dall’Ara. According to the club’s website, Holm has become the 11th Swedish footballer to wear the Rossoblu shirt.

The 24-year-old enjoyed a decent season at Atalanta in 2023/24, helping the club secure a top-four finish in Serie A and win the Europa League title. However, La Dea strangely decided against taking up the option to sign him permanently for €8.3m, opening the door to Bologna.

Bologna and Spezia found an agreement relatively quickly. As a result, Holm will compete with Stefan Posch and Lorenzo De Silvestri for a starting berth in Vincenzo Italiano’s squad next term. The attacking-minded right-back rebuffed several approaches to join Bologna.

But he’s not the only full-back Bologna will sign this summer. Real Betis left-back Juan Miranda landed in the city yesterday to undergo medicals before penning a multi-year contract. Formerly linked with Milan, the 24-year-old will join the Rossoblu as a free agent after running down his contract in Andalusia.

Miranda graduated from the Barcelona academy before moving to Betis in 2020. Last season, he made 32 appearances for Los Verdiblancos, tallying two goals and two assists. Given all the hype surrounding the young Spaniard, he should be a decent reinforcement for Bologna.

Italiano knows the significance of securing squad depth after Bologna qualified for the Champions League against the odds. Therefore, reinforcing the flanks could be just a start.
