Disclosing the Rossoblù’s momentum in the transfer market, Bologna sporting director Giovanni Sartori has affirmed the club’s decision to pursue Mats Hummels and couple of other alternatives in defense after losing star boy Riccardo Calafiori to Arsenal.
Sartori spoke to Sportitalia in an exclusive interview, taking stock of the situation, where Bologna are obliged to boost their defence ahead of a historic UEFA Champions League debut.
“Hummels is a negotiation, but not the only one. There are others that we keep open. To go get a player you should have options. Everyone knows that we had a contact long ago, now we are evaluating what the market offers. We are looking at others too. When an answer comes from one of the first 3 choices we will proceed, whether it is Hummels or one of the others. We skimmed the work by getting to these 3 names: the first one who tells us yes will be taken.”
Croatian defender Josip Sutalo, Juventus’ Daniele Rugani, Lazio stopper Nicolo Casale, Al Ahly’s Mohamed Abdelmonem and Barcelona’s Clement Lenglet are few other names linked with a move to Bologna.
Hummels is fresh on the back of losing the UEFA Champions League final to Real Madrid, and is currently a free agent exploring his options. Bayer Leverkusen, Napoli and Roma are also in the race to sign the German defender.
