Bologna Executives Signal Bernardeschi Exit Effort

Bologna CEO Claudio Fenucci has confirmed his side’s interest in signing Toronto FC winger Federico Bernardeschi. The ex-Juventus star moved away from Serie A on a free transfer last season, joining Lorenzo Insigne, who arrived on a similar Bosman transfer from Napoli. However, he could be handed a new lease on life in the Italian top tier.

“He’s a great player and we like him. The negotiation is between him and Toronto. If he can find an agreement to go on loan, we’ll be there, even if other Italian teams like him,” revealed Fenucci (via DAZN).

Bernardeschi is reportedly looking to secure an exit from the Canadian giants. However, he will have to make a few sacrifices in order to materialize a move, including his salary, given his current deal runs through to the end of the 2026 season.

Fenucci’s loan-specific comments indicate that Bologna could well become Napoli target Bernardeschi’s third Italian club following spells at Fiorentina and Juventus. The 29-year-old himself is an admirer of Thiago Motta, alongside whom he starred in the Italy national team.

Bologna sporting director Marco Di Vaio, who concluded his career at Montreal Impact, reportedly flew out to Toronto last week to scheme an exit plan to Bernardeschi.
