Bologna Hit Jackpot to Sign Milan Winger Saelemaekers

Milan outcast Alexis Saelemaekers has made the switch to join Thiago Motta’s Bologna on a temporary deal after the player and the respective clubs green-lighted the transfer. The Belgian moves from the Rossoneri on a loan deal with the option to buy at the end of the season.

Several clubs, including Juventus, Besiktas, and Real Betis were linked to signing Saelemaekers, who was left out of Stefano Pioli’s season plans following the additions of Luka Romero, Christian Pulisic, Yunus Musah, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tijjani Reijnders this summer.

Saelemaekers had earlier reached an agreement in principle with Betis on personal terms, but Milan failed to come to terms with the Verdiblancos, instead choosing to wait out for suitors to pop up.

On the other hand, Bologna acted fast on the direction of Motta, who has been wanting a pacy winger. They will sign Saelemaekers on an initial €500K loan fee, with the option to buy at the end of the season set at €10M.

The Rossoblù management have now succeeded in onboarding two midfielders in the space of two days as they will welcome Remo Freuler from Nottingham Forest in a swap deal involving Nicolas Dominguez. Saelemaekers leaves Milan after three-and-a-half years, having joined from Anderlecht on an initial loan deal in 2020.
