Bologna in Advanced Stages to Sign Ex-Atalanta Stalwart

Bologna have accelerated their interest in Nottingham Forest midfielder Remo Freuler, setting up advanced talks to sign him before the transfer market shuts close. The Swiss left Atalanta after six and a half season, moving in August 2022 to then newly-promoted Forest. However, he might leave England and return to Italy after just one season.

The 31-year-old has been identified as an apt target, as per Sky Italia, as the Rossoblù ponder including a makeweight to secure his signature in the form of Nico Dominguez.

Most of Bologna’s interest stems from sporting director Giovanni Sartori, with whom Freuler already worked with in Bergamo during their initial years at Atalanta. In fact, it was Sartori who authorized Freuler’s Atalanta transfer from Luzern back in 2016.

A loan deal could be struck for Freuler with the option to buy, perhaps without the inclusion of Dominguez. The Switzerland international made 33 appearances for Nottingham last season in the Premier League but has been benched in their two first two league games so far.

Our Take on Freuler to Bologna

With the experience Freuler possesses, he could very well play an important part for Thiago Motta’s outfit in Bologna. He has more than 200 appearances in Serie A, and his versatility in the middle third could prove instrumental in Bologna’s new-look play.
