Thiago Motta in Pole Position to Replace Mihajlovic at Bologna

Bologna are looking at Thiago Motta as their new coach, according to various reports. I Rossoblù sacked Siniša Mihajlović on Tuesday following a disappointing start to the campaign, with no wins through five matches.

The former Italian international has been out of work since leaving Spezia at the end of last season. Replacing Vicenzo Italiano at the Aquilotti, he guided the side to Serie A safety with a 16th place finish. The parties split by mutual agreement over the summer.

Motta also had a brief spell with Genoa in the 2019-20 season, though the ex-midfielder only lasted 10 matches. Overall, Motta’s record in competitive matches with senior teams as a head coach is 13-9-28.

Our Take on Bologna Going for Thiago Motta

Bologna should possibly aim for higher than Thiago Motta as their new mister. Looking at Motta’s overall record, he has not impressed as a coach so far. In the three full seasons Mihajlović was the Bologna boss, the Serb led the Rossoblù to 12th twice and 13th. There doesn’t seem to be enough evidence from Motta’s previous spells that he will be able to any better.
