Robin Gosens recounted his busy summer, when he left Inter to join Union Berlin:

Bologna Plot Summer Swoop for Ex-Inter Flop

Robin Gosens could be on the verge of an unexpected Serie A return after Bologna added him to their list of targets. As per Gianluca Di Marzio, new Rossoblu boss Vincenzo Italiano has given his go-ahead for the German wing-back’s signing.

There’s a feeling Bologna could undergo profound changes in the coming months. Italiano will oversee transfer dealings after taking over from Thiago Motta. And one of his first stamps on the squad he has inherited from the new Juventus manager could be the acquisition of Gosens.

Gosens, who plied his trade in Serie A with Atalanta and Inter, returned to his homeland last summer to team up with Union Berlin. Though the club had a rough season in the Bundesliga – barely keeping hold of their top-flight status – the 29-year-old excelled.

His tally of seven goals and four assists from 37 matches has caught the eye of Bologna. That’s after the 2023/24 Serie A surprised package informed Milan that they wouldn’t bother to activate a buyout clause in Alexis Saelemaekers’ loan deal during ongoing talks over Joshua Zirkzee’s move to San Siro

The Belgian’s imminent return to his parent club will open the gap on the flank, with Bologna looking to fill it with Gosens. He’ll turn 30 next month, but Union Berlin will expect to recoup the €13m plus €2m in add-ons they invested to bring him back to Germany 12 months ago.

Whether their demands would blow Bologna out of the water remains uncertain. What’s certain is it wouldn’t hurt to have a player of Gosens’ experience for next season’s Champions League.
