Bologna show no signs of stopping as Thiago Motta’s men squeezed past newly-promoted Frosinone 2-1 on home turf to maintain their surge to the top. Rossoblu delivered another scintillating first-half performance at Stadio Renato Dall’Ara, making it eight games unbeaten in Serie A.
Since a 2-0 opening-day defeat to Milan, Bologna have gone into overdrive despite drawing a league-high five matches this season. Motta’s high-flyers came from an early 2-0 deficit to hold Inter to a 2-2 stalemate at Giuseppe Meazza before the international break. They picked up where they left off against surprise package Frosinone.
Bologna produced a slick move in the 19th minute, slicing through the visitors’ backline, with Lewis Ferguson poking home from point-blank to break the deadlock. The hosts soon doubled their lead through Lorenzo De Silvestri. The veteran’s unbelievable long-range header from 20 yards out sent the home fans into a dreamland.
Frosinone came close to pulling one back for the Canaries minutes later, but Lukasz Skorupski pulled off a magnificent save to thwart Luca Mazzitelli’s free-kick. Mazzitelli had another massive chance to beat the Polish goalkeeper but failed to hit the target from a promising position.
However, Eusebio Di Francesco’s side did manage to trouble the scoresheet and duly so. Marvin Cuni drew a penalty in the 63rd minute, with Juventus loanee Matias Soule striking from the spot to give the traveling fans a glimmer of hope. But Frosinone couldn’t break Bologna’s defense for the rest of the game.
