Bonaventura Predicts High Season for Fiorentina After Genoa Win

Fiorentina thrashed Genoa 4-1 in the opening Serie A game of the season, as the Grifone fell mightily to a stern Viola outfit who scored at least four goals in a Serie A debut played away for the first time since a 5-2 victory in September 1956. Giacomo Bonaventura played a vital role in the win and believes his team can only get stronger as the season goes on.

Speaking to DAZN (via ViolaNews), the Fiorentina number five previewed the season ahead after the high-spirited victory in Genoa.

“We had a good game in Genoa, it was only the first, I’m sure there will be many more. We are in our third year with the coach, we have experienced many situations that have made us all grow together. Now several important players have arrived, in my opinion the team is stronger and we can do even better than last season.”

Bonaventura feels his team is well positioned to learn from the mistakes in last season’s cup finals, as they fell to successive 2-1 defeats against Inter and West Ham United in the Coppa Italia and UEFA Europa Conference League finals respectively.

“The mistakes made in the finals? They will be useful to us this year, especially for the younger kids. Against West Ham on the pitch we had the feeling that we could have won the game at any moment, that match still burns a lot, while versus Inter we were aware of the strength of the opponent.”

Fiorentina are primed to star in the UECL once again this season following the exclusion of Juventus by UEFA due to the Bianconeri’s financial shenanigans.
