Veteran defender Leonardo Bonucci, who once hailed Italy’s win against Spain in the EURO 2020 semi-final as the toughest game of his career, believes the Azzurri have enough awareness to beat La Roja once again.
Speaking to the microphones (via Calciomercato) at Twente Stadion in Enschede ahead of the UEFA Nations League semi-final clash, Bonucci expressed his team’s intent to win.
Winning never hurts, we want to get to the final. We play a great team like Spain, but there is awareness on our part to bring home an important trophy.”
Inter players joined Italy’s camp at a delayed notice due to the UEFA Champions league final, and the Juventus stopper believes the disheartened Nerazzurri players can start over again.
“As a group we are fine; we trained in Sardinia and then the Inter boys joined us in Coverciano disappointed, but ready to start again. Football is like this.”
Bonucci is expected to man Roberto Mancini’s four-man backline alongside Francesco Acerbi, with Federico Dimarco and Giovanni di Lorenzo on either side of them. They will bank on Verratti, Jorginho and Barella ahead of them, with Chiesa, Retegui and Pellegrini making up the attack line.
