Borussia Dortmund Midfielder Not a Top Priority for Juventus

Axel Witsel would be the easiest target to acquire for Juventus in January. Coach Massimiliano Allegri is a big sponsor of the veteran. But it is not a slam dunk that the Bianconeri will indeed sign him in the next window, Calciomercato.com reports.

The Old Lady would have to offload one of their midfielders first. Aaron Ramsey is the leading candidate on the list. However, his conspicuous wages and the lack of interest make his departure difficult. More importantly, Juventus director Federico Cherubini prefers adding a younger player.

While Allegri has a significant influence on the transfer market strategies, the management maintains the final say. The gaffer pushed for Miralem Pjanic last summer while the Manuel Locatelli deal was stalling. However, the front office stuck with it and eventually reached an agreement with Sassuolo.

According to the site, Witsel would pick Juventus over Newcastle if given the choice. Still, the Magpies would give him larger wages. He is on an expiring deal, and Borussia Dortmund will likely let him go for a small fee in early 2022.

The Bianconeri will test the waters on other objectives before eventually going after Witsel, if still available. The coach has been informed of the plan, and he is not one to complain. Juventus have been linked to Aurelien Tchouameni, Denis Zakaria and Boubacar Kamara for the role. The last two are in the same contractual situations as the Belgian international. There is plenty of competition for all three options.
