Bournemouth Poach Fiorentina Talent Out of the Blue

Gaetano Castrovilli will leave Fiorentina to join Bournemouth, which arranged a flash deal amid challenging extension talks between the Viola and the midfielder. He’ll flee after racking up 125 appearances, 13 goals, and 8 assists.

Per Corriere dello Sport, the Gigliati will get €12M plus €1M bonus from the sale. The player and the brass had been trying to agree to a new contract, as he had just a year left on it. Since the parties weren’t getting any closer, as he was reportedly asking for the same salary as their stars, the management went ahead and accepted the offer.

Castrovilli will make €3M per year at Bournemouth. He’ll double his Fiorentina wages and smash their cap. The Cherries successfully managed to lure an Italian talent this time after coming very close to signing Nicolò Zaniolo in January.

The 26-year-old also starred for Bari and Cremonese on loan when he was younger. His trajectory was stunted by an ACL tear in April 2022, which sidelined him for over 200 days. He resumed showing flashes of his former self only late last season.

Our Take on Fiorentina Selling Castrovilli to Bournemouth

The Viola are always pragmatic, so a sale was almost inevitable. A few midfielder-needy sides should have gotten in on the action since the fee wasn’t too high. It’ll be interesting to see whether they’ll add more midfielders after Arthur Melo and Gino Infantino.
