Brazil Player Ratings vs Serbia: Richarlison Masterpiece Lights Up Doha

After witnessing their rivals Argentina and Germany succumbing to shocking defeats, the Brazilians took note and made sure to avoid a misstep on maiden appearance in Doha. The South Americans dominated the action against Serbia from the first whistle, but they only managed to raise the tempo after the interval. In the end it was Richarlison’s brace that decided the encounter in favor of the Selecao. So here are our player ratings for Brazil who earned a well-deserved 2-0 win at the expense of Serbia in their World Cup opener.

Brazil (4-2-3-1)

Alisson Becker – 6

The Liverpool custodian picked up a ball or two during the first half, but was mostly a bystander for the majority of the evening as the Serbians failed to aim a single shot on target.

Danilo – 6.5

A solid display as ever from the experienced Juventus right-back. Was never troubled by Mladenovic nor Radjonic.

Marquinhos – 6.5

A comfortable day in the office for the PSG captain who was reunited with his longtime teammate Thiago Silva. Kept Mirtovic and company under control.

Thiago Silva – 7

A commanding display from the Brazil captain who marshalled the backline with ease and confidence while nullifying the threats for Mitrovic, Tadic and Vlahovic.

Alex Sandro – 7

A great display from the Juventus veteran who was always present to clear the danger when needed. Didn’t dart forward on too many occasions, but had a long-range effort crashing against the bar.

Casemiro – 7.5

A superb outing from the Man United enforcer who had so many tasks and several foes to battle. The Brazilian came out on top on most occasions, and he almost added a stunning third goal, but his curler rattled against the woodwork.

Lucas Paqueta – 6

A solid if not spectacular display from the former Milan man who acted as a box-to-box midfielder. Put Raphinha through on goal with a brilliant give-and-go.

Raphinha – 6.5

A vibrant display from the Barcelona winger who connected well with his teammates. However, he still has to improve his finishing to become world class star.

Neymar – 6.5

As always, the legendary striker was the biggest attraction on the pitch, but it wasn’t his most memorable outing for Brazil. Couldn’t direct his shot goalwards, yet, he played a part in both goals, especially when dribbling his way into the box before the opener.

Vinicius Junior – 7

The Real Madrid forward took the shot which led to Richarlison’s first goal, and his assist led to the stunning second. But just like Raphinha, he wasted a couple of chances in front of goal.

Richarlison – 8

The Spurs star isn’t exactly a classic centre forward, but like a true target man, he popped up on the right occasion to break the deadlock. Nonetheless, he will always be remembered for the acrobatic masterpiece that was his second goal. Breathtaking!
