Buffon: “Dybala and Di Maria Most Gifted Players in Serie A”

Juventus icon Gianluigi Buffon has expressed pleasure at the choice of Paulo Dybala to go to Roma, instead of hitching up with fierce Derby d’Italia rivals Inter. The Argentine playmaker left the Bianconeri on a free transfer after seven seasons, having failed to jot down a contract extension at the Allianz Stadium.

Buffon, who spent five seasons alongside Dybala as his teammate, spoke to Tuttosport in an exclusive interview and said he ‘hoped’ the ex-Palermo man would reject the Nerazzurri.

“Paulo had the right to choose after leaving Juventus on a free transfer. When I saw in recent weeks that he could have gone to Inter, Roma or Napoli, I hoped he would choose one of the last two. I was hoping for it.”

The legendary goalkeeper believes only the two latter clubs would have been ideal for La Joya.

“Paulo needed an emotional shock at this point of his career. I was convinced that only Rome and Naples could give it to him. I also wrote him with a message and I’m happy to see him at Rome.”

The iconic shotstopper then named Dybala and new Juventus signing Angel Di Maria as Serie A’s most technically-gifted players.

“Dybala, from a technical point of view, is the best in Serie A along with Di Maria.”

La Joya managed to register a remarkable tally of 115 goals in 293 appearances for the Bianconeri, winning five consecutive Scudetti between 2015 and 2020. The attacker will now play a starring role for Jose Mourinho at Roma.

He is expected to make his Giallorossi debut away at Salernitana, whereas Di Maria will appear in Serie A for the first time against Sassuolo at home.
