Buffon Hails Onana and Maignan Impact on Inter and Milan

Iconic Italian shotstopper Gianluigi Buffon has hailed André Onana and Mike Maignan for their impact on Inter and Milan respectively this season. Both keepers have played an important role in their teams to succeed, especially in Europe. The legend went on to name them as two of the five best shotstoppers in the world at the moment.

Speaking to Sky Italia (via Calciomercato), Buffon commented on their status among the creme de la creme.

“Maignan isn’t a surprise, as had already demonstrated clearly what he was able to do last year. Onana got off to a convincing start. He has shown personality and large enough shoulders to play in a team like Inter and fend off a competitor like Samir Handanovic. They have proven on the pitch to deserve to be considered in the circle of the top five goalkeepers in the world.”

Onana and Maignan have established themselves as two of the most promising young specialists around, representing either side of the Milan divide.

The Cameroonian, who succeeded veteran Handanovic between the sticks, has kept 19 clean sheets in 38 appearances for Inter this season, enroute a historic UEFA Champions League final spot. Whereas, Maignan has been marred by injuries. Nonetheless, the Frenchman has played his part – blanking the opponents 9 times in 26 matches.
