Cagliari Starlet Raoul Bellanova Draws High-Profile Serie A Enquiries

Raoul Bellanova could be handed a lifeline in Serie A after Cagliari suffered relegation to Serie B this past season. La Gazzetta dello Sport, via Calciomercato, claims that Inter, Roma and Fiorentina will enter a transfer tug-of-war to sign the highly-rated full-back.

Three different coaches failed to save the Sardinians from returning to Serie B for the first time since 2015/16. The price for a dreadful relegation will be hefty as Cagliari brace themselves for an exodus this summer.

Despite Cagliari’s abysmal season, Bellanova was one of the most consistent performers in Serie A in 2021/22. He made 31 league appearances, clocking up a goal and two assists.

Considering Cagliari’s dismal scoring return, it comes as no surprise the 22-year-old struggled for more impact. However, Bellanova remains one of the most appreciated up-and-comers in Italy.

His skills are in high demand, as Inter appear to be in a pole position to acquire his signature. The Nerazzurri are in the market for a new wide-man after Ivan Perisic joined Tottenham Hotspur on a free transfer

Though he is primarily a right-back, Bellanova successfully covered the left-back position on multiple occasions last season. Since Inter already have Denzel Dumfries on the right, the Italian youngster may have to switch to the opposite side.

However, Inter could struggle to clinch an agreement with Cagliari. The Sardinians have reportedly pinned a substantial €20m price tag on Bellanova’s head.

Known as stubborn negotiators, they are unlikely to budge on their valuation of one of their most prized assets. Meanwhile, Inter are still dealing with financial turmoil.

Unless they raise funds by selling some stars of their own, Simone Inzaghi’s men may end up empty-handed.
