Sunday afternoon’s encounter between Cagliari and Udinese lived up to its tag as the least exciting Serie A matchup this weekend. The two out-of-sorts sides produced another tepid contest, sharing the spoils in an uneventful 0-0 draw at Unipol Domus.
Both teams headed into the international break with almost identical records. While Cagliari drew once and lost twice in their first three Serie A games, Udinese registered two stalemates and one defeat. Despite going winless in the build-up and netting a meager one-goal apiece, neither side seemed interested in improving their dismal scoring tallies.
Claudio Ranieri hoped to inspire Cagliari to their first home win over Udinese since 2018 but to no avail. His men looked clueless in the final third, just as they did in their three league outings before September’s international break. However, the Sardinians still had the best chance in the first half.
Zito Luvumbu picked up a loose ball on the edge of the box and unleashed a superb low shot. But he was unfortunate to see the ball rattle off the post straight into the safe pair of gloves of Udinese goalkeeper Marco Silvestri. That was also the only save the Italian stopper had to make today.
His Cagliari counterpart, Boris Radunovic, was perhaps the only reason the game ended 0-0. The Serbian goalie pulled off an astonishing stop to parry Lorenzo Lucca’s attempt from point blank in the 76th minute and register his second clean sheet this season.
Mateusz Wieteska’s late red card did nothing to change the outcome except for denying Ranieri a chance to play him against Atalanta next week.
