Calhanoglu Counts Inter UCL Chances, Eager to Sign Extension Deal

Turkish midfield ace Hakan Calhanoglu is confident of Inter’s chances in the Coppa Italia and the Champions League following an immense 18-point gap that opened up to Serie A leaders Napoli. The Nerazzurri were dealt a blow with a 1-0 defeat to Bologna at the Stadio Renato Dall’Ara last Sunday, allowing Milan to catch up on par with 47 points, a whopping eighteen behind the Partenopei.

The former Rossoneri spoke to La Gazzetta dello Sport (Via FCInterNews) and shed light on the club’s targets this season, along with the possibility of him extending his deal at Inter.

“No one expected Inter to be so far behind. Napoli deserve to be there, but it’s our fault, like last year. We could have been closer if we hadn’t lost points. Nobody will be able to catch Napoli, but we have to play regardless with the right attitude – like the one we played with Porto. We want to win the Italian Cup and in the Champions League we can surprise.”

When quizzed if he would you like a derby in the Champions League quarterfinals, the Turk sounded ecstatic.

“Very much, that would be history!”

Finally, Calhanoglu spoke about an impending renewal with the Nerazzurri.

“I’m proud that Inter want to renew me and my will is to stay here. But I want to stay in Milan even after, staying in football. Maybe I’ll even open a 100% Turkish restaurant that is missing in the city.”

Since joining from Milan two seasons ago, Calhanoglu has 11 goals in 78 appearances for Inter, most recently winning the Supercoppa Italiana against his ex-club.
