Cameroon football icon and current federation of the African nation Samuel Eto’o has picked his say between Milan and Inter goalkeepers Mike Maignan and Andre Onana respectively. While Maignan has had a start-stop Rossoneri season due to injuries, Onana has featured almost regularly for the Nerazzurri this campaign.
However, both shotstoppers have been instrumental in helping their respective sides reach the UEFA Champions League semi-finals, although Onana has the upper hand for the moment.
Eto’o spoke on the occasion of the Milan Football Week organized by La Gazzetta dello Sport (via MilanNews) and gave his verdict between the two guardians, leaning slightly towards his national counterpart.
“We saw two of the best goalkeepers in the world on Wednesday, that’s true, but for me Onana is stronger than Maignan. André wasn’t very convinced about coming to Inter, I advised him to say yes, that it was a step forward, and today I’m glad I did: he’s about to play Champions League final, it’s not something that happens to all players. I’m happy for him and for all of Inter.”
Maignan has kept 9 clean sheets in 24 appearances, whereas Onana has double that number, 18, in 37 appearances for Inter this season.
