Carlo Ancelotti has set aside his love-hate relationship with Jose Mourinho and backed him to go all the way in Serie A to win the title. The former Milan coach, who himself etched quite a legacy in the Giallorossi colours between 1979 and 1987 as a stern midfielder, has said that he wants to see Roma win the Scudetto under the Portuguese tactician.
The relationship between the two experienced coaches remains not so clear after Mourinho earlier claimed that Ancelotti was ‘dumb’ but ‘loves’ him. The pair had an icy relationship during their time in Serie A more than a decade ago, when Ancelotti led the Rossoneri against Mourinho’s Nerazzurri.
Speaking to RadioRai in an exclusive radio interview (via Gianluca Di Marzio), coach Carlo revealed what he thinks about the Serie A race this season.
When asked on his future desire to coach Roma one day, he said: “I hope that the Giallorossi win with José Mourinho.”
According to the Real Madrid manager, Inter are still favourites to compete for the Scudetto and Juventus are bound to bounce back soon.
“I see a very balanced Serie A. Juve have some problems but I’m sure they will bounce back and will be among the contenders in the end. Inter too, as they have maintained the structure of last year while changing the coach and some protagonists,” he commented.
Ancelotti is back in Madrid after disappointing spells in charge of Everton and Napoli.
