‘Champion’ Lukaku Would Be Welcome at Inter, Says Toni

Italy legend Luca Toni believes Chelsea striker Romelu Lukaku possesses the will of a ‘great champion’ and that he would be welcome back in the Nerazzurri colors if coach Simone Inzaghi wishes so.

Lukaku has been in the English media for all the wrong reasons since his high-profile move last season, as he cited his intention to return to Inter after a rocky comeback at the Stamford Bridge.

Speaking to TUTTOmercatoweb during the Charity Night Gala event in Rome, Toni shed his thoughts on Lukaku’s possible return to the blue and black divide of Milan.

“A possible return of Lukaku to Inter? He had a bit of difficulty this year at Chelsea, but he is a great champion.”

Inzaghi would certainly not mind bolstering his frontline, especially given Edin Dzeko’s age and Lautaro Martinez’s links with top European clubs. Toni thinks it will largely depend on the ex-Lazio coach to bring Lukaku back to Inter.

“It will depend on Inzaghi, if Lukaku wants Inter, I think he is welcome.”

Lukaku notched 15 goals and 2 assists from 44 appearances this season for Chelsea – numbers truly shadowed by his two-season exploits in the Nerazzurri colors.
