Chelsea are eyeing Hirving Lozano, whose contract with Napoli expires in 2024. President Aurelio De Laurentiis recently said he’d like to extend it. However, the front office has yet to meet his new representatives to start negotiating. He was part of the Mino Raiola agency.
The Mexican winger and Piotr Zielinski, who’s in the same situation, might be sold next summer, TuttoSport and Mediaset’s journalist Raffaele Auriemma told Radio CRC (via TVAzteca).
“Napoli players think about it twice before leaving, as it’s not easy to do it right now, but those two might bolt for sure.”
Chelsea would target Lozano because Graham Potter likes this kind of pacey wingers. The Italian pundit suggested that the Azzurri would cash in €50M from his departure, although it wasn’t clear whether he included Zielinski in his tally.
“If that happened, they would send the money to Sassuolo to acquire Armand Laurienté and Davide Frattesi. But it also depends on how you receive the sum. It changes a lot if you get it through multi-year installments.”
Our Take on Lozano and Chelsea
It’s easy to imagine Napoli partying ways with the attacker considering his short-term deal and that his salary is unusually large for the standard they set last year once they bid farewell to Kalidou Koulibaly and Lorenzo Insigne and brought in players with smaller wages. On the other hand, the destination is dubious, as the Blues already have a host of wingers. They would likely target more renowned players if they were to further add to their frontline.
