Chelsea See Initial Bid for ‘Next Marco Verratti’ Rejected by Inter

Inter’s negotiations with Chelsea for Romelu Lukaku ended up bringing a certain class-of-2003 Nerazzurri prodigy into the crosshairs of the Blues. While details of this interest was unknown until now, the London outfit are said to have accelerated talks with Inter for their Primavera starlet.

19-year-old Cesare Casadei is the player in spotlight. According to Sky transfer market expert Gianluca Di Marzio, the versatile central midfielder is highly appreciated by Chelsea coach Thomas Tuchel.

With the backing of the ex-Dortmund and PSG manager, the former European champions are in ‘serious’ talks to sign the youngster on a permanent deal, having already presented an initial offer to the Nerazzurri – around €7-8M.

Nonetheless, Inter are least interested to lose one of their best talents, but could accept anything in the range of the €20M mark, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport. It appears to be part of the Inter’s efforts to thwart away any interest by demanding such an unusually high price for Cesare Casadei, who has not made his Serie A debut yet.

It is understood that the Nerazzurri would like to include a buy-back clause in the deal, in order to not lose out on Casadei’s services entirely. It was tried and tested in negotiations with Torino for new Juventus signing Gleison Bremer, but that move eventually crumbled as Inter refused to let him leave.

The teenage sensation has often been compared in the Italian media as a direct successor to Paris Saint-Germain icon Marco Verratti, owing to the fact that they function in the same position. Also, one aspect Casadei has managed to outshine others is in the area of goalscoring. As a center-half, he has 24 goals and 7 assists in 65 appearances for Inter Primavera.

As per Daily Mail, apart from Chelsea, Azzurri clubs Empoli, Sassuolo and Torino are also key contenders for his signature despite him having two more years on his contract. The Neroverdi appear to be frontrunners among Italian clubs.

Casadei was acquired from almost-bankrupt Cesena on a free deal back in 2018, but started training with the Inter first team under Simone Inzaghi only in February this year.
