Chiellini Announces Extension, Sassuolo Warn Juventus on Locatelli

Giorgio Chiellini has been out of contract for almost a month. Even though his agent voiced some discontent, there have never been real doubts he would continue with Juventus. The defender confirmed it today while getting an award in hometown Livorno.

As transcribed by Calciomercato.com, he told the press: “I needed some extra rest to recover from what happened in the last few weeks. But I will be in Turin Monday, and I am happy to re-start. President Andrea Agnelli has already been exhaustive on my new contract. Lifting the Euro cup as the Italy captain was something I had never even dreamed about. I want to win some more trophies. Wearing a jersey without the Scudetto patch on it will provide extra motivation.”

Chiellini and the management will soon put pen-to-paper. On the other hand, Juventus will have to wait to finalize another extension. The agent of Paulo Dybala has flown to Italy as scheduled, but he has to quarantine for 10 days due to the current COVID regulations. The parties are in touch, but only a face-to-face meeting will make the negotiation progress, Tuttomercatoweb informs.

Instead, Juventus will not have a new summit with Sassuolo today as originally reported. The Neroverdi CEO Giovanni Carnevali put some pressure on the Old Lady talking to La Gazzetta dello Sport: “We are still waiting for an adequate offer. Otherwise, Manuel Locatelli will stay with us. We will close our transfer market at the beginning of August.” The midfielder will end his vacation in 4 days, and the Bianconeri would like to seal the deal beforehand.
