Chiellini Mulling His Future After World Cup Disappointment

Giorgio Chiellini dreamed of finishing his stellar career in Qatar, but that will not happen. His future hangs in the balance following the loss in the World Cup playoffs. His contract with Juventus runs out in 2023, but the parties will decide together in a couple of months.

According to La Gazzetta della Sport, the defender is contemplating multiple options. There is a decent chance the next nine games will be his last with the black-and-white jersey. The 37-year-old has again struggled with injuries in 2021-2022. He has skipped 13 matches due to different muscular problems. He has played in 17 games, with just 12 starts. At times, he was on the bench only to be present in the locker room, as he was unfit to perform.

Chiellini and the club will take stock at the end of the season. He would continue to play with the Old Lady if Massimiliano Allegri and Andrea Agnelli asked him to do so. The parties could strike a deal at a lower salary based primarily on his number of appearances.

The Bianconeri brass wants to make the squad younger, but they would lose another mainstay after Paulo Dybala. The Old Lady already signed Federico Gatti from Frosinone as a potential heir. They are chasing after Antonio Rudiger and more center-backs. If Juventus opted to move on and he did not retire, Chiellini would be interested in moving to the MLS. In any case, the plan for him is to be part of the management once he calls it quits.
