Chiellini Says He Is Feeling Better, Dishes on Scudetto Hopes

Giorgio Chiellini updated on his status and weighed in on a few topics during a charity event hosted by the Ecoeridiana Insuperabili foundation: “Things are moving in the right direction. I have been out for a month, as I have taken it easy. I am practicing on the pitch, and I should re-join the rest of the team shortly. The last week was positive, and I am hoping to play before the World Cup playoffs.”

The defender talked to SportMediaset about the Bianconeri’s improvements in 2022: “We started to right the ship in November. We had to get to know each other in the first couple of months. International duties in South America did not allow us to have consistency and took away some key players. We have been solid after that. Denis Zakaria and Dusan Vlahovic added enthusiasm in January. The next week will be very important. Advancing in Champions League is vital for us and the fans.”

Like Massimiliano Allegri, Giorgio Chiellini is not optimistic about their Scudetto chances: “We have to be realistic. It is fair for fans to dream, but we have to take it game by game. We would start thinking about it if we won several matches in a row. Anything can still happen. We do not want to hide, but we have to be balanced. We are on the right track. We leave it up to the supporters for now, and we are not making any charts.”

The captain was coy on Paulo Dybala’s extension: “I can just say that he trained today and that he is in better shape. You just have to live with being on an expiring contract and focus on playing. Lionel Messi and I won the Copa American and the Euro while being without a team.”
