Chiesa Comments on Long Recovery and Point Deduction

Federico Chiesa was sidelined by a muscular hiccup for the Monza game, but he’ll be back and likely start in Coppa Italia versus Lazio. The winger talked about his lengthy recovery from an ACL tear to Prime Video (via La Gazzetta dello Sport).

“The initial diagnosis was the biggest blow. The rest consisted in achieving daily objectives, overcoming the pain, and returning well and quickly. It took longer than anticipated, but the doctors told me it could occur sometimes. The processes lasted ten months instead of six. However, I was seeing the finishing line in the later stages, which wasn’t the case at the beginning.”

“Unfortunately, my dad ruptured his patellar tendon twice. When I got hurt, he told me that it was worse than my injury. My mother had gone through the whole ordeal. She said that it could happen in football and that I just had to work hard to come back. My parents, my brothers, and my girlfriend have been very close to me. My father gave me many pieces of advice and still does since I occasionally have small aches. I missed the past game due muscle fatigue in the flexor muscle on the same leg I had knee surgery on.”

Chiesa closed with some words on the point deduction and its impact.

“We players and the coach have to focus on improving our performances since we have conceded a lot in the last few matches. We weren’t aggressive in the first half against Monza. As the gaffer told us, we weren’t present. We have to resume playing better football, because we have the means to do it. We must be fiercer and more compact. The management takes care of outside-the-pitch matters.”
