Chiesa Headed to Liverpool After Quick Negotiation

Juventus and Liverpool went ahead and completed the transfer of Federico Chiesa as Barcelona didn’t send any tangible signal in the last couple of days. The Bianconeri will pocket just enough to avoid a loss on the books, La Stampa informs.

The winger will move for €12/15M and will sign a four-year contract. He left Turin on a private jet on Wednesday afternoon. He had been frozen out from the squad earlier in the summer since his camp and the hierarchy didn’t find common ground on an extension.

Chiesa quickly okayed the switch to Liverpool, while Juventus were willing to settle for a meager fee to prevent a Bosman departure. The Italian international talked to Sky before leaving.

“I’m ready to start this new adventure. I wanted to bid farewell to the Bianconeri fans and thank them for their affection in these last few years. I will always carry you and the club in my heart. I’m sorry to depart like this, but my family and I are truly looking forward to what’s next.”

Per Tuttomercatoweb, the attacker will earn €7M plus bonuses annually. He moved to Turin for about €55M from Fiorentina in 2020 but his stay was derailed by an ACL injury that sidelined him for 9 months. Despite that, he still put up decent numbers, posting 32 goals, 10 of which last season, and 23 assists in 131 games.

Our Take on Chiesa Joining Liverpool

His agent really did a number on this one if the numbers are correct. Since a renewal wasn’t really viable, it’s the best possible outcome. It’s a great chance for him to take his game to the next level. Yet, it feels like he’ll be back in Serie A sooner rather than later.
