Chiesa Provides Update on His Return Date, Coy on No.10

Federico Chiesa is hard at work at the Juventus training center ahead of his return from an ACL tear. The attacker underwent surgery in January and is likely to miss the early portion of next season.

The winger commented on his recovery to Tuttomercatoweb during a Save The Children event.

“My dream is to be back on the pitch as soon as possible, but we must respect the timetables. The medical staff is fantastic and is helping me a lot. I have started to run and cut. I think I will be ready by the start of September. We will see whether we can speed things up a little. But we have to be totally sure to have relapses.”

Chiesa will be playing next to his former Fiorentina teammate Dusan Vlahovic once he is able to return.

“We already paired up in the past, and it was a great fit. We are friends off the pitch. I am looking forward to teaming up with him and dishing some assists, so he can score more.”

The Euro winner was quizzed about the no.10, which will be up for grabs following the departure of Paulo Dybala.

“I am interested, as anybody would. Great players donned it here at Juventus. You will know more about it in July.”

Chiesa spelled out the objectives for next season and replied to a question about Angel Di Maria.

“We will aim to be in the running for every objective in March. He is a champion and won a lot during his career.”

The attacker closed with some remarks about the Azzurri.

“We needed some changes and fresh faces. The system requires an overhaul too, as we have fallen behind other nations. Youngsters do not play here. It is a matter of mentality.”
