Ciro Immobile Breaks Lazio Serie A Record in Venezia Game

With the successful penalty against Venezia, Immobile is now the all-time Lazio top scorer in Serie A. He has hit the net 144 times, one more than legendary Silvio Piola. Giuseppe Signori (107), Tommaso Rocchi (82) and Giorgio Chinaglia (77) round out the top five for the Biancocelesti. The Italian international was already the most prolific striker in the history of the club in all competitions.

Immobile ranks 15th for most goals in the Italian league with 176. He had bagged a few with Torino and Genoa in the past. He has Juventus’ icon Giampiero Boniperti (178) in his sight, Sky indicates. Fabio Quagliarella (180), Gabriel Omar Batistuta (184) Alberto Gilardino (188) and Alessandro Del Piero (188) are not too far ahead. He will enter the top ten once he leapfrogs them. Instead, he will need a few more seasons at a high level to reach the all-time podium. Gunnar Nordahl has tallied 225 goals, Francesco Totti 250 and Piola 274.

Immobile broke the club’s record while donning a special armband to celebrate Pino Wilson, the captain of the 1973-1974 Scudetto team that passed away recently. He told DAZN after the game: “I am proud of what I am doing. I thank the people that always supported me. Pino was very beloved, which means that he was a great man and leader. He will always live in the supporters’ hearts. This team is rich with history and champions. I try to learn something from each of them. I dedicate this win to him.”
