Club Brugge Coach Discusses the Future of Milan Target

Milan will be able to take a close look at Maxim De Cuyper on Tuesday. The fullback is on their radar to either replace Theo Hernandez down the line amid a challenging negotiation to renew the star’s contract, or simply join him. They don’t have a proper deputy at the position at the moment.

The Belgian side’s manager Nicky Hayen addressed the fullback and the brewing transfer market interest in him in his pre-game presser, hinting at his likely departure (via Tuttomercatoweb).

“Every player has a certain ambition, and he wants to move forward in his career. He has a lot of quality. We’ll see what the future holds for him. He’s very important to me. In the meantime, he has to meet our expectations, then we’ll see whether he’ll find room in another team in the future.”

According to Calciomercato, Milan have been following De Cuyper for about a year and a half. More suitors have joined them since he has continued to grow. Club Brugge demand €20M, but his price tag is bound to go up.

The 23-year-old is a club product and left in the past just to cut his teeth at Westerlo for two campaigns. He has amassed 71 appearances in the Jupiler Pro League, notching 10 goals and 14 assists. The defender has starred five times with Belgium. He can play in a few roles, including on the other wing, despite being a lefty.

Our Take on De Cuyper and Milan

He’s overqualified and too pricey to be a deputy, while he’ll be one to watch if they things snowball with their ace, but there’s a long way to go before that.
