Cesc Fabregas is in his dreamland after his spirited Como side overturned a halftime deficit in a stunning 3-2 away win against Atalanta on Tuesday. Despite entering the match as betting outsiders after a five-game winless Serie A start, the Lariani defied the odds to grab an incredible victory at the Gewiss Stadium.
Davide Zappacosta’s superb half-volley gave Atalanta a slender lead at the break. However, Como netted three unanswered goals inside the first 12 minutes of the second half to turn the game on its head before Ademola Lookman’s 99th-minute penalty determined the final score.
Fabregas praised his Como players for their remarkable performance in Bergamo, insisting they ‘deserved even more.’
“We played a good game, we created a lot of chances and we managed to put them under pressure,” the Como manager told DAZN, as reported by TMW. “We prepared the game hoping to hurt one of the best teams in Europe. They are a Champions League team.
“I had belief, and today I feel it even more. When you come here and put in a performance like that, it is really nice and gives you a lot of confidence,” the thrilled Como coach continued.
“I’m happy with everything. We deserved even more. We worked on tactics and technique, but I ask the boys, more than anything, to have personality. I felt for them because the results haven’t come yet, despite our best efforts.“
Como will hope to build on this success when they take on Hellas Verona on home turf this Saturday.
