Como Consider Terminating Superstar’s Contract After One Month

Raphael Varane has only registered 23 minutes of Coppa Italia action in the Como shirt, which could be his only contribution for the Lariani. According to DAZN, Cesc Fabregas’ men have omitted the French superstar from their Serie A squad list.

Varane joined Como as a free agent at the start of August. He previously ran down his contract at Manchester United. Despite drawing lucrative inquiries from the Middle East, the experienced center-back has opted for the Italian minnows in one of the most shocking transfers of the summer.

The 31-year-old’s decision to turn down big-money approaches from Saudi Arabia to link up with Como caught many by surprise. He was supposed to be their defensive cornerstone and bring experience to the squad that’s heavily expected to fight for survival until the final day.

However, Varane succumbed to an injury on his debut against Salernitana on August 11. He suffered an issue with the flexor muscle in his thigh and now faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines. As a result, Como reportedly consider terminating his contract after only a month.

Despite spending much time and energy to persuade Varane to come, Como could show him the door in September. After onboarding the 2018 World Cup winner, the Serie A newcomers have completed another high-profile acquisition, luring ex-Barcelona captain Sergi Roberto to Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia.

But it’s been a rough Serie A return for Como. After a 3-0 defeat at Juventus on matchday one, Fabregas’ charges could only manage a 1-1 draw at Cagliari last time out.
