Conte Bestows Immense Praise on Lukaku, Insists Chelsea To Use Him Better

Antonio Conte and Romelu Lukaku led Inter to their first Scudetto championship title victory in over a decade. Lukaku scored 64 goals in 95 appearances for the Nerazzurri during his stay at the Giuseppe Meazza, including 24 goals in 36 Serie A appearances in 2020/21.

Inter were forced to sell their star striker after accumulating lethal a financial standing and his former club Chelsea were the first to pounce on his signature. However, his re-start to life in London hasn’t gone according to plan.

Italian tactician Conte believes the Belgian marksman is not being utilized properly at Chelsea by Thomas Tuchel.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Conte explained: “Last season they didn’t have a proper centre-forward, so they rotated positions. Whereas Romelu is a real reference point in attack. If they can figure how to use him, then Chelsea can become the team to beat in the Champions League this season.

If you have a player like him, you need to use him and I don’t think Chelsea have quite figured out how to use him yet.”

Tuchel has started Lukaku without fail in matches so far but their system of attacking play has not worked out at an optimal level, yet.

He added: “He is a very specific striker and extremely dangerous and quick. It is very difficult to find a player who is both a target man but can also run from midfield. I always wanted him in my teams, even when I was in Chelsea.”

Finally, Conte revealed that he is proud of working with Lukaku during their Inter spell.

“A coach is good if he can improve players. I think we did great work with Romelu over two years, he said”
