Conte Leaves Tottenham After Less Than Two Seasons

Antonio Conte and Tottenham have mutually agreed to part ways on Sunday night. His lead assistant Cristian Stellini will helm the team in the remaining fixtures while the club searches for a coach for next season.

The veteran boss spent less than two full campaigns in London. He was hired on November 21st, 2021, and managed to finish 4th. The Spurs are currently in the same position with a two-point lead over Newcastle. On the other hand, they have just been eliminated by Milan in the Champions League’s Round of 16 and didn’t go far in the two domestic cups either.

The gaffer recently had a fiery rant against his players following a 3-3 draw with Southampton. The strained relationship with the squad led to his exit more than results, Corriere della Sera informs.

Our Take on Conte

Things seemed headed this way for a while. Only winning makes his intense methods bearable. Qualifying for the Champions League is an achievement, but it’s not a trophy, plus his health issues and distance from family contributed to his exit too.

He has been linked pretty much to any top Serie A team. While Juventus are the most logical landing spot, they are unlikely to move on from Massimiliano Allegri considering his rich contract and success in recent months. A return to Inter appears to be the most likely scenario. Although, they are in worse shape compared to when he left. He’d be a swell choice to replace José Mourinho, but Roma will try to keep their current coach and are constrained too. Milan are in the best position to lure him should they ax Stefano Pioli, given their resources and ambition, but it feels like a poor fit stylistically.
