Milan icon Alessandro Costacurta has backed Inter to strike an upset in the UEFA Champions League final against Manchester City. The defender, who himself was part of the Rossoneri squad to lose against underdogs Marseille in the 1993 final, believes being the favorites is no guarantee of victory.
Costacurta spoke to Sky Calcio Club (via FCInterNews) and explained how the showdown in Istanbul on June 10 could go down.
“In 1993 we reached the final against Olympique Marseille having won everything before. We dominated the final with 26 shots against one, but Basile Bolì scored from a dead ball and the cup went to France instead.”
Considering the fact that Manchester City are the most in-form side in Europe, despite their 1-0 defeat to Brentford a dead-rubber Premier League clash recently, Inter will enter the final as long-shots against Pep Guardiola’s men.
