Coveted Bologna Star Ferguson Suffers Major Knee Injury

Bologna have been dealt a significant blow as Lewis Ferguson has been diagnosed with an ACL tear following a rough collision with an opponent in the recent Monza game. He’ll undergo surgery soon, Bologna announced.

The Scot will be on the mend for at least five or six months to heal. He’ll miss out on the opportunity to represent his home country in the upcoming Euro too. He’ll close his second Serie A season with six goals, just shy of last year’s tally.

Ferguson suffering a major injury will affect the next transfer market window as well. The midfielder was a very strong target for Juventus, which might hire Thiago Motta, and Napoli.

Bologna will turn to Giovanni Fabbian, Kacper Urbanski, Oussama El Azzouzi, and Nikola Moro to replace him in the final six matches of the season. They are coming off two draws, which loosened their grip on the fourth spot in the standings.

Our Take on Ferguson

The timing couldn’t have been worse as he’ll be unavailable for the final pivotal matches and a big chunk of the next campaign. It’s been interesting to see what Motta will come up with in relief. Fabbian and Urbanski can compensate for his scoring and offensive punch but aren’t as physical and well-rounded.

The turn of events will have big ramifications in the summer. He seemed a safe bet to join a big for a relatively affordable price tag relative to his quality and caliber.
