Roma proudly announced the arrival of prodigious forward Matias Soule from Juventus on Tuesday, but that won’t be the end of their summer dealings. Daniele De Rossi is hellbent on signing a top-class striker to replace Romelu Lukaku, and Girona’s Artem Dovbyk has emerged as the club’s top target.
A crucial round of talks between Roma sporting director Florent Ghisolfi and Dovbyk’s camp took place on Tuesday, with Fabrizio Romano releasing a photo of the player and the Giallorossi executive in a restaurant in Spain.
Ghisolfi landed in Spain yesterday to finalize Dovbyk’s transfer to Roma after agreeing on personal terms with the 27-year-old. The Ukrainian center-forward is ready to pen a five-year contract at the Stadio Olimpico. He already turned down a late approach from Atletico Madrid to facilitate his switch to Roma.
It’s now up to Ghisolfi to quench Girona’s financial appetites. A decisive meeting between the parties could happen later today, with Roma tabling a €30m offer, plus €5m in bonuses, to secure Dovbyk’s signature. There’s still a minor gap between the Italian club’s proposal and the Spaniards’ request.
Girona are seeking €35m plus add-ons, yet with the player’s approval, negotiations continue in good faith. There’s a feeling Roma and Girona could meet at the halfway point, which would see the deal go through at approximately €32m, plus bonuses.
Dovbyk, who was superb in La Liga last season, would be a massive addition to Roma. With Paulo Dybala and Soule operating behind him, he could be among the most lethal Serie A attackers next season.
