Daniele De Rossi has been offered three benches over the last year since retiring from Boca Juniors, however he has not been able to accept them due to technicalities and delays related to his coaching license, Gazzetta dello Sport reports. Fiorentina, Cagliari and Crotone are the teams that reached out to the former Roma legend.
When the Viola contacted him last summer, De Rossi had yet to sign up for the combined B-A level UEFA course that takes place in Coverciano and could not technically serve as a manager yet. Moreover, an exception that allowed World Champions to receive an authorization ex officio is no longer valid.
De Rossi then enrolled for the class, alongside Alessandro Del Piero, Christian Vieri, Giampaolo Pazzini and David Pizarro. However, due to the restrictions related to the COVID-19 pandemic, it started only in December and, in any case, it is only a preliminary course to become an assistant.
After passing it, the candidates have to enlist into the Uefa Pro course, which does allow to serve as gaffers even before the final exam. However, it generally kicks off in September and the applicants have to wait for eight months after clearing the first step. Therefore, De Rossi might have to sit out also the next offseason.
The solution would be to be joined on the bench by a licensed veteran coach and play second fiddle only technically, but De Rossi has not taken it into consideration yet, despite the proposals. Crotone inquired about him when they were considering axing Giovanni Stroppa, while Cagliari wanted him both last summer and when they recently dismissed Eusebio Di Francesco, before opting for Leonardo Semplici.
