De Rossi Tips Inter to Whittle Down Gap on Napoli and Milan

Former Roma hero Daniele De Rossi has backed reigning Serie A champions Inter to get back to the title race after a mixed start to the new season. The Nerazzurri are currently seven points adrift of pacesetters Napoli and Milan, though there’s still plenty of time for them to return in contention for Scudetto.

A lack of consistency has seen Inter fall off the early Serie A title pace. However, Simone Inzaghi’s men have racked up a four-match unbeaten run in Italy’s top-flight since losing 3-1 to Lazio in mid-October to set themselves up nicely for the upcoming clash against Napoli.

The Nerazzurri will face a prime opportunity to haul back the deficit on Luciano Spalletti’s side when they lock horns at the Giuseppe Meazza in the first post-international break fixture. Having won their last three top-flight H2Hs at home without conceding, they will be full of confidence going into this showdown.

Worryingly, though, Inter have failed to win any of their four league meetings with last season’s top-seven Serie A teams this term (D3, L1). Inzaghi’s men took the lead in all four encounters but subsequently failed to hold onto it, which already looks like a pattern.

But a victory over Spalletti’s high-flyers could set the tone for Inter’s comeback as De Rossi tips the defending champions to fight their way back into the Scudetto race.

Milan and Napoli are better than the rest right now,” he told Sky Sport Italia, as relayed by SempreInter. “But the season is long. They will all come back, Inter, Roma, Juve, and even Lazio. There isn’t one team who are much stronger than the rest, it will be fun.
