Danilo Asks for Peculiar Tweak of His Juventus Contract

Danilo wants Juventus to remove a clause to automatically renew his contract if he plays in 50 percent of the matches this season. His deal expires in June 2025 but with that caveat, Goal reports.

The defender has featured in just four tilts so far, starting once. He might believe that the tweak could lead to more minutes. If his wish were granted, his playing time would no longer affect his future.

Danilo can technically star either as a center-back or a right-back under new Juventus coach Thiago Motta. However, he’s not been a top choice in either role. The boss has preferred Federico Gatti, Pierre Kalulu, who can also man the same two roles, and youngster Nicolò Savona wide.

The Brazilian veteran is set for a natural uptick in minutes considering the Bianconeri just lost linchpin Gleison Bremer for several months because of an ACL tear. On the other hand, he might remain a deputy if the teammates fare well. The veteran reportedly makes €4M per year.

Our Take on Juventus and Danilo

The Old Lady squeezed out Alex Sandro in a similar fashion, although his paltry performances, higher salary, and Andrea Cambiaso’s emergence made it a lot more understandable. Motta doesn’t seem like somebody who pays too much attention to these things while selecting his XI nor lets the officials dictate his choices, but you never know. There’s little downside for the management to comply with his request, as it’d help the team too, which would be freer to make its choice at the end of the season, or perhaps in January.
