David Neres Inching Closer to Complete Napoli Switch

Napoli intend to complete a trifecta of additions in short order, and David Neres could be the first one to seal the move. PSV are keen on him too, but he wants to transfer to Serie A, Gianluca Di Marzio reports.

It won’t be easy to come to terms with Benfica, but the Partenopei have scheduled a meeting with his agent to kick the talks into high gear. The Portuguese side wants €25M for the Brazilian speedster. He has recorded 5 goals and 10 assists in 35 matches last season.

Napoli aren’t tracking any other winger besides David Neres. Antonio Conte specifically asked for a reinforcement in that position. The newcomer would join Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Matteo Politano, Cyril Ngonge, and Giacomo Raspadori. They parted ways with Jesper Lindstrom earlier in the summer.

The Azzurri have also lined up Billy Gilmour and Marco Brescianini to shore up their midfield. They’ll finalize those acquisitions once they trim their squad, which could occur very soon. Gianluca Gaetano is very close to Parma. Instead, Jens-Lys Cajuste, after turning down a few teams, could head to Brentford on loan with a mandatory option to buy.

Our Take on Napoli and David Neres

He’s a fine player, but it’s a little weird that they would add a third left-footed winger to the fold. Perhaps Conte isn’t too high on Politano and especially Ngonge. They need more depth in the midfield but could perhaps be a little more ambitious.
