Davide Frattesi Laments Italy Profligacy After Bosnia Win

Inter midfielder Davide Frattesi has urged Italy toimprove in front of goalfollowing a wasteful 1-0 win against Bosnia & Herzegovina. The former Sassuolo man scored the winning strike at Empoli’s Stadio Carlo Castellani, propelling Gli Azzurri to a morale-boosting victory in their final warm-up fixture for Euro 2024.

After an underwhelming 0-0 draw against Turkey on Tuesday, Italy headed into proceedings to make amends for a toothless showing but failed to live up to expectations again. Despite mustering 18 attempts on goal, Luciano Spalletti’s side had to settle for a narrow win.

Speaking to the press in the aftermath, Frattesi conceded the necessity for improvement in the final third. There’s no doubt Italy will have to be more clinical in front of goal if they’re to join Spain as the only side to defend a Euros crown.

I could’ve scored more, so we certainly need to improve. We need something extra to be ready for the tournament, but we’re continuing to work, the Italy international told RAI Sport.

We created opportunities today and must do better in front of goal, as there will be fewer chances to score in the group phase.

We certainly did some interesting things today, some well-worked moves, but it was one of the first times we were playing together with this system, so we can only improve.

Italy will kick off their title-defending tournament with a must-win clash against Albania on June 15. Spalletti’s men cannot afford a slip-up in their curtain-raising fixture, with high-profile matches against Croatia and Spain waiting in the wings.
