De Ketelaere Expresses His Preference for the Future

Charles De Ketelaere would be more than happy to stay put at Atalanta as the decision about his option to buy looms. La Dea can keep him by shelling out €22M. He spoke about it to Belgian publication HLN (via Calciomercato).

“I’ve learned a lot from my negative season at Milan. It helped me make some steps forward and will keep doing so. Campaigns that aren’t so good are more informative than the positive ones. I feel good at Atalanta. I’ve found the right environment and a style that only they could give me.”

De Ketelaere praised Atalanta coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

“We play really good football, and everybody knows what they have to do. He’s stern but fair.”

De Ketelaere spelled out what his choice would be concerning his Atalanta future.

“If it were up to me, I would stay put, also because I can still improve. Milan are a great team. However, at this moment, I need to play, and I don’t want to go back to the bench. Everybody here is helping me a lot, from the staff to the fans, who made me feel at home.”

Our Take on Atalanta and De Ketelaere

He has regressed a little after a pair of supernova months once the other attackers resumed producing and took some playing time away, but it’d be a big shocker if the Bergamaschi didn’t pick up their option, or at least found other ways to retain him.
