De Ketelaere Slated for First Rendezvous with Milan

Charles De Ketelaere is primed for his first meeting with Milan, as the Rossoneri will take on Atalanta on Saturday. The Belgian got off to a fast start but tailed off because of the competition and a pair of injuries.

According to Calciomercato, La Dea is hoping his displays and production improve, but their intention to buy him out hasn’t wavered. They paid €3M as an initial fee. They’d have to add €23M, plus €4M add-ons to sign him outright.

De Ketelaere scored his first Serie A goal in the opener in his Atalanta debut and then went on to add another one in Europa League, plus, two assists, in September. He has been quiet ever since. The return and strong showings of Gianluca Scamacca and knee and oblique ailments cut into his playing time.

Despite his lull, Gian Piero Gasperini routinely talks him up. The gaffer sees him in a different role than during his time in Milan. He prefers deploying him as a second striker or even a false-nine.

Our Take on Atalanta, Milan, and De Ketelaere

The formula is more definitive than not given the amount of the first disbursement, but he’ll still have to earn his permanence as the final sum is quite large. He’ll get his fair share of opportunities with Scamacca hurt again and AFCON just around the corner. He has looked re-engaged and re-energized, and the position seems right. It might be just a matter of game time and fitness for him to flourish fully.
