Napoli owner Aurelio De Laurentiis was pleased with how the team was faring and touched on some transfer-market topics in an interview with TNT (via Tuttomercatoweb).
“I had anticipated a great season because when you have the same players for a long time, even if they are very good, they get a little demotivated. Instead, the new ones we unearthed with our terrific scouting have immediately proven reliable. The group is the strength of this squad. We have participated in an European cup for 14 consecutive years. We found Victor Osimhen and then added Kim Min-Jae, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, and Frank Anguissa. I think we will be competitive for a long time.”
De Laurentiis was quizzed about the pending extensions.
“It won’t be hard to keep ahold of our best players. I’m very capable in doing contracts, but never say never. Sometimes you get offers you can’t refuse. But I think they will continue to shine with us for a long time.”
The chairman dished on Hirving Lozano.
“I like him a lot, and he plays almost all the times. He routinely changes agents, so we have to meet his new ones to talk about his future. I hope he’ll be able to stay with us for a while. He’s extraordinary with his sprints. He provided many assists and sometimes scored on his own.”
De Laurentiis took a shoot at the new Super League format.
“It’s a major stupidity. You can’t conceive a tournament for just a few teams. The UEFA formula is old, and we should discuss with them and FIFA about how to bring in €10B. The problem is that we are bleeding money, play too much, and don’t consider fans.”
