De Laurentiis Confident Osimhen Will Stay at Napoli

Aurelio De Laurentiis put up his usual show while introducing new coach Rudi Garcia and stated that Victor Osimhen would be sold only for massive bids (via SportMediaset).

“I’ve said a long time ago that he must stay. Then if an offer that would be important for the health of the club arrives, we’ll see. I talked with him before the Scudetto party since it was a priority. We have an agreement in principle to prolong his contract for two more years. As for the other players, we’ll have to evaluate with the manager.”

According to Gianluca Di Marzio, Osimhen is open to staying put, but the parties haven’t gone into detail regarding his extension. His agent Roberto Calenda will also inquire about the marksman’s price tag in the upcoming meeting. Should he depart, Napoli would target Lille’s Jonathan David.

De Laurentiis motivated the decision to hire Garcia.

“We didn’t have a long list, that’s just what I fed the press; otherwise, you would bother me all day long. I was looking for somebody that utilized 4-3-3 successfully. That was paramount because we don’t need to overhaul the squad. He finished second twice in Serie A and even started with ten wins in a row one year. I thought he fit what were seeking. In addition, he fared well in the cups with Olympique Lyonnais, and I care a lot about the Champions League. I chose him in 11 days. I was impressed with his spontaneity and directedness. It was as if we had already met in the past. We clicked immediately.”
